Michael,

The answer depends on the version of your ITM environment. If you are
running 6.2.3 FP01 or later (not sure if it is available on earlier
versions), the uptime and downtime values are not only available in ITM but
they are included in the OS agent data model as well, so you don't need to
make any custom changes to the data model.

For example, the uptime and downtime percent values in the data model are
available under Key
Metrics->Availablity->*Platform*Availablity->Daily->Availablity Daily
path.   Remember that these
are calculated values based on the following ITM attributes and provide
only one data point per day. (No hourly summarization available). They
indicate the % availability for the given host on a given day.

Cognos calculates the values based on the following ITM attributes

   - Linux - KLZ_System_Statistics - Tot_System_uptime
   - Windows - NT_system_DV - Tot_System_Up_Time_64
   - Unix - KUX_System_DV -TOT_Up_Time

You can use the above ITM attributes, if you want different representation
other than what is provided by the built-in data model.

Hope this helps.
