Interesting, as some places do not like lsof, they consider it a bit of
a hacker tool

I realize this doesn't actually help, but it's on-topic and interesting,
IMO.

Windows and Linux have some LSOF capabilities built into the netstat
command:

Windows: netstat -nao

Linux: netstat -nap
