I have people do that occasionally

Running TEMS without SITMON
http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21451311

when there is a toxic situation which is causing TEMS crash immediately.

After the situation is identified, you can run kdstsns and set Run at
Start to *NO.

I have also recommended it to people where the stop/start was so slow that
the ITM maintenance failed. You see that during application support where
the TEMS needs start and then stop. There are some hard coded stop times
and that can break the process.

It isn't much useful otherwise since without SITMON not much is
happening...

One interesting thing you can do--purely for PD purposes--is add the
following to the end of KBBENV: CMS_SKIP_SITMON=Y. This stops SITMON from
being started at TEMS initialization. Then see if the TEMS shutdown
completes in timely fashion. Also, remove "KSMOMS.KSMOMS" from the
KDS_RUN var within KBBENV. Or, don't do the above and just configure
KBB_RAS1 for UNIT's 'ko4async' and 'ko4sitma' (ALL) and see what the
trace produces error-wise and perhaps it's a well known hit.

SITMON is busy means the TEMS is in a really bad state. ITM uses a sort of
cooperative multi-tasking with pthreads and if any logic doesn't give up
control you are stuck. Definitely PMR time unless you can bear to consider
upgrading to a later level first....

Thanks Toben, that's the approach I usually take, check the logfiles, see
if anything been written and if not kill, then a kill -9...

The standard kill seemed to trigger something so they must have put a trap
in there somewhere. Might be worth u changing to

itmstops || itmstops || kill $pid || sleep 120 || kill -9 $pid
Think this rtems was already dead before I tried to shut it down, agents
were all showing offline

Found this in the ms log
Tue Apr 9 09:01:21 2013 KDS9150I The TEMS Sitmon thread is BUSY.
Process TaskManager::process#1 has been in the BUSY state for longer than
900 seconds.
Then no more entries, until I shut it down - ring any bells with
anybody???

Personally, Robin, I like the "try twice and dice" method. If it still
doesn't shut down on the second attempt, soft kill, then hard kill as last
resort.

# alias itmstops='itmcmd server stop <tems_name>'
# pid=$(ps -e | grep kdsmain | awk '{print $1}')
# itmstops || itmstops || kill $pid || kill -9 $pid

There are a couple of minor, rare concerns with killing kdsmain, but stars
have to align just right and edits/updates to *.DB/*.IDX files have to be
occurring simultaneously and usually you'll be aware of those.

No -f option? Is it better to keep trying to shutdown or kill the
kdsmain process if it takes longer than 10 minutes on a RTEMS??
