I'ld love to see a few things: 1) netstat output showing what hfaxd is actually listening on. You can control what hfaxd listens on useing the -i optoin to hfaxd to tell it what to listen on. 2) strace (truss on FreeBDS?) of the sendfax/faxstat client that is giving you the "Can not reach service ..." error.
