Hi Lee

Thanks for the feedback. A colleague proposed I maybe try downing the DTE-DCE speed (previously set at 115200, now at 57k). For now I have not seen the issue yet. If it pops up, I will try and change from 1.0 to 1. I'm not using a VM but using an embedded environment.

Does seem like a serial comms issue though.

Kind regards
Christo

Switch to Class 1 (from Class 1.0) and see what happens.

V.34-Fax unfortunately burdens the DCE (the modem firmware) with the generation of FCS bytes on the ECM frames. Consequently, the error correction occurs between the DCE and the remote end rather than from the DTE (the software, HylaFAX in this case). So, in a V.34-Fax situation the serial communication path between the DTE and DCE is not checked for errors.

Switching to Class 1 (disabling V.34-Fax) will make ECM check the entire data path, including the serial path between the DTE and DCE.

Normally the serial path between the DTE and the DCE is not suspect because... well, it's a rare thing. However, if the flow-control is broken (software or hardware - XON/XOFF or RTS/CTS) or if the serial
driver(s) are buggy, then there can be problems.

If I remember right, you are using a virtual machine, and if that is the case, then my first suspicion would be that there is a problem with the serial emulation in the VM. (We've certainly seen that be the case many times before.)

Thanks,

Lee.
