hylafax+ 5.5.9: Localization of Email

Good morning,

after I have changed the localization settings of mail notifications to 
LANG=de_DE;
the mails come in german language, though the Umlauts (ä, ü, ...) are 
corrupted:

Mail header shows:
Mime-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

which looks OK, as well as the content of /var/spool/hylafax/bin/dict/de

Where in the chain could the Umlauts be chopped?
