No, you can send caller ID using AT commands, so you only need as many
iaxmodems as concurrent calls that you expect.

If you're using a SIP trunk (with T.38, presumably), you could look into
t38modem instead of iaxmodem/Asterisk. You could also explore
GOfax.IP/FreeSWITCH.
