unusual names BibTeX doesn't like

I have encountered an unexpected problem with one of my authors.
I have the option authorformat=abbrv activated, and it's doing just
what I want, with
one notable exception: I need to cite the Rule of St Benedict by
Benedict of Nursia.
The problem seems to be that BIBTeX recognizes the name "Benedict",
and it is trying
to give me "Nursia, B. of". If I try to avoid breaking the name,
e.g.
"{Benedict~of~Nursia}", I just get errors.
It doesn't do this with an even stranger name, "Amalarius of Metz",
which has
presented no problems as yet!
Here's the entry for the book:
@BOOK{benedict:regula,
AUTHOR = "{Benedict~of~Nursia}",
SHORTAUTHOR = "Benedict"
TITLE = "Regula monasteriorum",
TITLEADDON = "\edbyname~J. Neufville",
SHORTTITLE = "RB",
CROSSREF = "vogue:RB"}
Thanks,
Jesse Billett
