I don't have a Max, so definitely not.

Looking around in the mental archives, I think I compiled my own version of
synctex when I started using ConTeXt (before Hans added --synctex=repeat
for compatibility) and put it in /usr/bin.  So a bit of a red herring,
sorry.

you now, I guess the immediate problem is solved.  Which means you can move
