transitions

I am using Prosper with TeXShop on OS X and have made some slides but
have not yet been able master any transitions.
My code looks something like this:
\begin{slide}[Dissolve]{Beam--Target Asymmetry}
\[
\sigma =\Sigma +h P_b P_t\Delta \, ;\, \, h=\pm 1\]
\end{slide}
but when viewed in Acrobat no transition effects are revealed - only
the standard replace.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
