strange bug in slide titles

It appears that if you start a slide title with a double "s" the whole 
page get's mucked up.  Does anyone know a fix for this? Is it a general 
prosper bug?
I have attached an example file originally made from lyx.

I am using
 prosper.cls,v 1.1.1.1 2002/09/21
and redhat 7.3.
