slow image display

Hi,

I converted an image from gif to eps using the export function in xfig.

I include it in my slide like this:

\begin{slide}{title}
\includegraphics{figure}
\endslide

The latex file compiles ok, the problem is that it takes up the whole slide 
and takes a long while to show up. I tried to set its width which produced a 
smaller image but it still takes a long time to display even when i am not 
in full screen mode.

Any ideas on what i can do to fix this problem ?
