For both these requirements, I use the following /dirty/ trick:

\bibliographystyle{alpha}
\renewcommand{\refname}{}
\begin{slide}{References}
   \tiny\vspace*{-2\baselineskip}
   \bibliography{yourbib}
\end{slide}
