Thanks for the feedback. Not having used something like \newif
before I'm probably gonna go for the \onlyInPS solution. Both
seem to imply that one has to design the original document with
both layouts in mind. 

Oh well, can't expect a computer to know what I want in the
end. If you come up with something like
\usepackage{telepathyDoWhatIMean} let me know...
