The blank line between the two minipage environments means they
are in 2 separate paragraphs, and hence typeset one after the
other. If you want them side by side, they should be in the same
paragraph, and then you'll probably have to play around with the
optional position parameter to get the effect that you want (I'm
sorry I usually do this by trial and error).
