Re: file fmutil

Lars, thanks for this.
Adding these  lines to the end of my  .profile, rebooting, did the job!

# set PATH to include texlive at the start
if [ -d "/usr/local/texlive" ] ; then
     PATH="/usr/local/texlive/2025/bin/x86_64-linux:$PATH"
fi

now TeXstudio can find things and compile projects.
