Well for emojis which do have an unicode code point you naturally
tell people to copy&paste the symbols from somewhere. But for
something like an icon collection, you really want names to access
the symbols and not some number.

luatex could probably use e.g. named destinations to retrieve pages,
but I don't see many options for pdftex.

Well I have currently around 80.000 files in fonts/tfm and over
130.000 in the full fonts folder, most of them for fonts I will
probably never need.
