I just installed (on a Linux x86_64 machine) the 2026 pretest by copying and modifying my 2025 installation, as described on the pretest page. The `tlmgr update` command failed to create the etex, pdf*tex and xe*tex formats, with the error "I can't find file `loadhyph-af.tex'". The other formats (lua*tex, tex, amstex, optex and mptopdf) were successfully generated. I haven't installed support for the Afrikaans language, so the file's absence isn't surprising, and previously never caused problems (in my TL2025 installation, (re-)generating formats still works fine for all formats). I have kept fmtutil-sys's logs and can post them, if required; but I couldn't find any clues there as to why some formats want to include non-installed languages. Best regards, Marc Penninga
