instopt_portable

Dear maintainers,

It is my own fault, I spent lots of time on asking myself why my setting 
of TEXMFHOME,TEXMFVAR and TEXMFCONFIG

has been ignored, and it is because i uchoose instopt_portable 1. The 
installer GUI gives a hint that this setting invalidates the above 
variables.

Maybe a warning in the installation log that I prescribed something 
inconsistent in my profile.

But Maybe it is a good idea to clarify this in the docs and also in 
texmf.cnf % Per-user texmf tree(s) -- organized per the TDS, as usual. 
To define % more than one per-user tree, set this to a list of 
directories in % braces, as described above. (This used to be 
HOMETEXMF.) ~ expands % to %USERPROFILE% on Windows, $HOME otherwise. 
TEXMFHOME = ~/texmf % TEXMFVAR, where texconfig/updmap/fmtutil store 
cached runtime data. TEXMFVAR = ~/.texlive2025/texmf-var % TEXMFCONFIG, 
where texconfig/updmap/fmtutil store configuration data. TEXMFCONFIG = 
~/.texlive2025/texmf-config

maybe a word here would prevent lots of searching.

Of course, it is my fault not reading in more detail.
