Folks, This morning I removed ~/Library/texlive/2026. Then I reinstalled MacTeX from scratch, and updated to the current setup using TeX Live Utility. Then I tried the ConTeXt example discussed by Bruno Voisin and Max Chernoff. It didn't work. So next I bit the bullet. I removed /usr/local/texlive/2026 and ~/Library/texlive/2026. Then I reinstalled using the Unix install script. Luckily this is heavily documented on the MacTeX web pages. This time, the ConTeXt example discussed by Voisin and Chernoff worked like a charm. Congratulations! Absolutely amazing! As Bruno pointed out, I added an extra optional feature to MacTeX with ConTeXT, which calls the synctex provided by Hans Hagen. So I activated that feature (which requires two steps, adding an extra "magic line" to the calling engine, and adding an extra setup line to the context document. I tried this with the sample above. It worked, and I got a synctex file, but no syncing. So I tried another more standard sample which we provide in the TeXShop "Inactive Folder" for ConTeXt. This time I got a synctex file and moreover SYNCING ACTUALLY WORKED IN CONTEXT! ---------------------- I have taken on an entirely different task for March, April, and May. I was supposed to mainly do that task in March, but instead I've been updating TeX Live stuff, even AFTER the release. Grrr. So I asked for an extension and just got it. But in the next two to three months, I just cannot do TeX Live tasks. However, clearly there is one more exception. I've got to make a new MacTeX release, this time tased on the latest sources as above. That new release will have the latest Ghostscript as well. Making a MacTeX release takes a lot of time because it has to be notarized by Apple and then uploaded to TUG. So I won't do it until there is clarity between Bruno and Chernoff on the syncing issue. But if the issue os solely that ConTeXt is using an old sync file, maybe that isn't really an issue because we have this WORKING method to use ConTeXt sync. Please give me some guidance. And extreme congratulations to Bruno for sticking with this issue until it was solved, and to Chernoff for finding the solution and making it actually work. You are both wonderful. Now tell me when I can take off and make a new MacTeX. Dick Koch
