well, when I update from the command line that works too (I had the 700+ 
updates already yesterday, today it was only another critical one + 6 
packages).

The critical one did still work via the texlive utility but after that 
listings for all mirrors that I tried failed (in the TL utility) but on 
the command line sudo tlmgr update --all still worked

In TL I get

Maybe the repository setting should be changed.
