I copied the example of François Pétiard exactly and compiled it and still 
did not get a lanscape display.  I am using v. 2.8 BTW.  After reading all 
the installation problems of 2.9 on this list, I would not go anywhere 
near that version.

I will try one of the other viewers suggested.

While I am here, is there any pdf viewer that allows you to recompile 
without exiting the viewer and will also automatically update the view 
after you have done that?  I just gave up on Adobe, not for that reason, 
but because their latest update hangs up on my Win 7 box.  Foxit seems to 
work well enough but still locks the viewed file.
