Consider a document called test.tex whose contents are: \documentclass{article} \usepackage{amsmath} \begin{document} \begin{equation} \label{eq:1} y=x \end{equation} Eq~\eqref{eq:1} \end{document} If I compile it twice, I get what I want and the file test.aux has only two lines: \relax \newlabel{eq:1}{{1}{1}} I shall add to the bottom of this post the file test.log. What do you get if you do same thing? In which important way is it different from the files that I get?
