Dear Mr. Adlam,

may be the following can solve your problem

%% preamble - before \begin{document}
\makeatletter
\renewcommand*\l@figure{\@dottedtocline{1}{1.5em}{3.2em}}
\renewcommand*\l@table{\@dottedtocline{1}{1.5em}{3.2em}}
\makeatother
%% adjust the values to what you need 1.5em --> 3em ...
%% first argument: hierarchy of entry - chapter, section, ...
%% following arguments intendation of number and text

Hope this helps
Peter Zimmermann

P.S.: there are a few packages which allow fine tuning of
\tableofcontents ...
tocloft or titletoc

Hi,

I have a PhD thesis and a long list of figures at the beginning. The
trouble is that the indent from the figure number is too small and the
number text is overlapping the caption text. I have a lot of figures!

Document header:

\documentclass[report,a4paper,12point]{report}
\usepackage{charter,baththesis,graphicx,pdfpages}

and using

\listoffigures

You can see my problem on the left hand side in the small attached .png
file.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tim.
