Dear Mrs. Fischer,

thanks for your advice. But I can confirm the behavior Mr Walker reported.
Update 13.2. no pdflatex run possible
Update 14.2. pdflatex runs but produces dvi output
                      of course I can put the line
                      \pdfoutput=1
                      at the beginning of my document and I get pdf but
                      there is something wrong.
                      Besides: also all hyphenation patterns are gone when
                      running pdflatex from within WinEdt
                      Running pdflatex in command line is ok.
