Puzzled about problem with package xecolour...

Hi folks: Have tried this with a current copy of MiKTeX 2.9 on Windows 7. Both on random and specific repositories, when I run update, rebuild the file list and formats, then go to the packages tab, the settings app spits out an unknown package error and the package listing on the tab is blasted apart. The pkg manager still works fine, but I can do nothing useful from settings. Uninstalling the pkg and rebuilding the list and formats doesn't seem to help. Anyone run into this?
