Hi Edgar:

The solution I use is simple.  Stop using adobe.  The tex team has raised 
this issue with them and they are not interested.  I use a wonderful pdf 
reader called sumatrapdf.  It does just the right thing.  It does not lock 
the source file and appears to continuously scan it to see if it has 
changed and, if it has, it updates it almost instantly.
