I had the same problem for some time.....and found the following helpful:

When WinEdt opens the following file, "Acrobat OpenDoc.edt", in
response to the error and highlights in red line 106:
Change line 106 from:
DDEOpen('%$("AcroRead")',"acroview","control",0);
To:
DDEOpen('%$("AcroRead")',"acroviewR11","control",0);
Save the file.
If you are running Adobe Reader 10.0, I suppose you can change line 106 to
DDEOpen('%$("AcroRead")',"acroviewR10","control",0);

I am running WinEdt version 5, Build: 20070819 (v. 5.5) under Windows
XP, and using Adobe Reader 11.0
