You should try to be a bit more precise in your problem description.
One important point is *when* does the error occur? When you write
the text? During compilation?
Well my crystal ball told me that you tried to open the resulting
dvi with YAP: This won't work. YAP uses for graphics internally the
dvips driver. So YAP needs \usepackage[dvips]{graphicx} or as dvips
is the default simply \usepackage{graphicx}.
Btw: Instead of using the dvipdf button in winedt you can also use
dvips + pspdf (which will work with \usepackage{graphicx}).
