Hi,

Like David Griffel I had not been able to update MikTex 2.9 for over a year. Your advice to right-click the install program and setting "Run as administrator" worked fine. Unfortunately attempting to compile any of my projects produced an 'etex.sty not found' error. Browsing through the user forum told me it has been a problem with others too. Things turned pear-shaped and I decided on a complete MikTex 2.9 download and re-install. Updated all packages, synchronised the repository, even found the etex.sty file in ...\miktex\bin\x64 although not sure how to tell Texmaker. After a day of getting lost in the woods 'etex.sty not found' is still there. It is good to see there is some stability in these turbulent times! Wonder if you could offer some advice.

Cheers, Reinhard

Jerry, thanks for your suggestions. I changed permissions for the Miktex installation directory, giving myself full control over it and subfolders, and now package manager works OK, and so does on-the-fly installation.

Thanks again,
David
