problems running pdftex on fresh install of mikTex

Hello,

 

I am new to MikTex, and just installed it on windows7 64-bit.

I added the d:\miktex\miktex\bin\x64 folder to my path, and created the following sample latex file:

 

% hello.tex

\documentclass{article}

\begin{document}

Hello World!

\end{document}

 

When I run pdftex hello.tex, I get some odd errors:

PDF statistics:

10 PDF objects out of 1000 (max. 8388607)

0 named destinations out of 1000 (max. 500000)

1 words of extra memory for PDF output out of 10000 (max. 10000000)

 

The pdf file is created, but it just seems odd that pdftex would be objecting to basic latex syntax.

 

Any help would be appreciated.
