Re: Converting rtf to LaTex and back from command- line

 Yes, there is a product Word2tex from Chikrii Lab which is a perfect converter.
The license is not expensive. The product works like a plugin to Word and
allows to save current Word document as LaTeX document. ("save as" sub-menu).
Document is converted in full including figures but I think it is better not to include
figures and insert them later from original sources directly into LaTeX document
to avoid quality losses. Another thing is that Word2tex adds excessive number
of operator braces {}, just in case, to avoid possible side effects. Usually it is
possible to reduce their number by the factor of about 2.

You are right in your expectation of LaTeX outstanding capabilities.
You will receive high quality and professionally looking documents.

Tex2word plugin is also available but I am not sure it is useful because LaTeX is
superior by all means.
