odd behavior when converting to pdf

Hello,

 

I am a new user of latex and MikTeX, so if this isn't the correct place to post this question please tell me where it should be posted.

 

I noticed something odd last night.

 

In my latex file I have the line:

 

\item Use a dictionary file containing 100 entries.

 

When I run pdflatex on the document and look at the resulting pdf file, I see:

 

Use a dictionary le containing 100 entries.

 

What happened to the "fi" part of file?
