Problem with encoding

Hi, I have a weird problem with my latex encoding. I mean that when I open my tex file in miktex some letters (I' m from Poland and I'm using leters like ą , ę, ó etc. Those are called diactric signs in Polish language) are replaced by different strange signs. I noticed that it might be a problem with encoding but I can't find an appropriate one. Can you give me some tip how to resolve this problem? Thanks in advance for giving me some help.
