Hello everyone, The article on MiKTex's website on how to update[1] lacks a description for Windows 8. The article says "To start the wizard, click "MiKTeX Update" in the Windows start menu.", but I couldn't find that term via the Windows 8 app search function ([Win]+[Q]). It's only called "Update (Admin)" (a version without "(Admin)" also exists). A sentence like "If you use Windows 8, search via [Win]+[Q] or on the start screen for 'Update (Admin)'" would be worth adding in my opinion. Strangely enough, I also had to run the updater twice to make the updater show no updatable package on the third run. When I first executed it, the button "Select all" and "Deselect all" were also grayed out.
