This may be a good solution in general, but it does not seem to work
on our very specially locked-down desktops RES workspace manager),
not even for portable apps, although I can view the fonts by
double-clicking.

This is not a problem for me personally since I take my Linux laptop
along when I want to do serious work.  But I do check out tips such
as this one for the sake of Windows-using colleagues.
