But the error message is a the first package where a file has to go
to C:\Program Files.

Well a lot people install miktex without problems so it can't be a
general problem.

The * in the path looks rather curious, but at first I would check
if some firewall or virus protection interfers. 


Btw: You don't need admin rights to install miktex. You can install
it in single user mode in your user account in some other location
then C:\Program Files -- that's what I always do.
