1.  large research groups with collaborators from multiple
labs/sites/countries
     often share TeX documents.  Since everyone installs at different
times,
     regular updating is often the only way to ensure everyone is using the
     same versions and greatly reduces the number of cases where "I can't
     compile the report on my system".

2.  if you install updates regularly and something breaks, the list of
suspects
     is short.

Massive updates often require a lot of effort in testing and bug fixing to
make
sure everything works.   If everyone waits until all the problems have been
sorted out, there would be no progress, so kudos to everyone who has
tried the new updates.
