Hello,

After the mess of installing it once, twice, unsuccessfully (?)
uninstalling once, and then installing once again, I am unsurprisingly
having some problems with MikTex.

In TexWorks, I write a simple document;

\documentclass{article}
> \begin{document}
> Hello World!
> \end{document}

When I try to compile it, I get this error:

This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.4-1.40.13 (MiKTeX 2.9 64-bit)

pdflatex.EXE: The memory dump file could not be found.

pdflatex.EXE: Data: pdflatex.fmt

texify: pdflatex failed for some reason (see log file).

Googling for the first problems leads me to do the following:

When I go to MikTex 2.9 > Settings, I get this error:

> Dvips paper size definitions could not be read.

Before the MikTex Options window opens.

I hit "Refresh FNDB". This seems to run with no problems, though I'm not
sure. When I hit "Update Formats", however, I get:

Creating language.dat, language.dat.lua and language.def...
> initexmf.EXE: No languages.ini exists.

and

No formats.ini exists.

Googling for these things leads me to things I don't understand and don't
know how to interpret. Please help me figure this out?
