latest mega-update | here we go again...

So, noticed almost every major element old MikTeX had an update (29 
August). After archiving my old MikTeX directory (which works 
perfectly), tried the updates on one of my machines.

Alas, as seems to be increasingly common over last mega updates, update 
throws an error -- this time, right at the end: 'inittexfm.exe fails' 
for some reason (or some such).

Tried it a second time, this time manually installing every MikTeX* 
package that had a 29-August build date from the package manager. This 
seemed to work, which suggested the GUI-based installer is 'broken' in 
some fashion.
