Re: -jobname broken?

I'm adapting a script that was piping latex generated on the fly to the
latex process.

Oh, I see the issue is the initial \relax.

Why is it that

latex --jobname=foo
\relax
\documentclass{article}\begin{document}abc\end{document}

creates texput.dvi in MikTeX, but foo.dvi in TeX Live?
