MikTeX installation failed

I have just installed MikTeX in the PC. I opened TeXWorks and tried to typeset a sample document using plain TeX. It didn't compile, and I got the following information in the console output:

Sorry, but "MiKTeX Configuration Utility" did not succeed.


The log file hopefully contains the information to get MiKTeX going again:

Sorry, but C:\Program Files (x86)\MiKTeX 2.9\miktex\bin\miktex-pdftex.exe did not succeed.

I use the file "minilt.tex," as

\input miniltx.tex,

followed by

\RequirePackage{graphicx}

to display pictures. I thought these files were going to be automatically downloaded from

the internet (this is what happens in my mac, and also in my PC at work, running MikTeX), but for some reason they didn't.

Can you indicate me what I am doing wrong?
