Besides that, if you are keeping your .bib file as a text file, you are probably working too hard. I use Mendeley to maintain my bibliography files. Mendeley stores the information, allows me to query on-line databases, and supports output of the biblio data as .bib files. It's not perfect, as the support and revision is VERY VERY VERY slow.
