well, that means that InDesign effectively builds the metric "on the
fly" to generate optical kerning. the result will be the same if one
generates the kerning beforehand for the given font, and will put that
into the metric file (AFM, OFM, TFM, etc). still, the Omega or TeX
will need only metric for it's operation...
