(note, past responses to questions like this have been null, which is why the faq is so unreliable nowadays.) y&y tex has dynamic memory allocation, but though it's again being developed, the chances of it catching up with web2c/pdftex before i "lose it" altogether are pretty small. r the faq non-believer
