The same is, of course, true for 'pwebmac.tex', because its PDF macros 
are mostly based on 'cwebmac.tex.

In order to fix the same problem(s) in *pwebmac.tex*, I have to dig deep 
and take a different approach:

In the end, the WEB sources documented in the 'knuth-pdf' package 
produce 'valid' PDF files with PDFTeX, too.
