Wow - this is really wonderful, indeed. Yes, it worked - and now, this
clears up my foggy mind a bit, as to why an extra pause was not coming in
when I was expecting it to!  A bit exapserated, I had tried to do the
above manually using the following:
\pause
% --- something here --- %
\pauselevel{=2 :2}\rlap{\includegraphics[height=2.0in]{quant-0}}\pause
\pauselevel{=3 :3}\rlap{\includegraphics[height=2.0in]{quant-1}}\pause
\pauselevel{=4 :4}\rlap{\includegraphics[height=2.0in]{quant-2}}\pause

Your solution is very elegant, thank you very much!
