you patch doesn't really match tetex beta-2.96.1.20040322 (s.b.)

I've merged the rejects manually (in Makefile.in tetex has spaces
around `=', in configure it's mostly the line numbers)

at a first glance the patch seems ok.  
I'll start a full rebuild on all plattforms RSN...
