I was suspecting this (and silently hoping for it). Checking CVS logs:
it has been there but was lost before dvipng-0.1 release. Since I've
had no complaints (about this) I'll remove it entirely. The autoconf
manual suggests this anyway (and quite possibly, I've read that
passage before, say a year and a half ago).
