It does. Here on MacOS 10.3.6. Very good to have the char
protruding bug in pdftex fixed since 2.99.4 (no more hustle with
replacing "--" with {\char21} and the like).
Detail: Also AFAIK since 2.99.4 TETEXDOC.pdf is truncated to
pages 13--15. As the .dvi and .ps are complete I think/hope it's
not an error in my install.
